Lead Programmer

Position Summary:

 

Durand Wayland is looking for a lead programmer to join with the engineering and sales teams in designing and developing the most sophisticated weighing, grading and vision system for the produce industry. In addition, the ideal candidate will assist in supporting existing units in the field. Our equipment is used to sort millions of pieces of fruits and vegetables daily for customers all over the world.

 

Our goal is to use state of the art technology to analyze imagery and/or weight to detect, identify and sort produce, to allocate weight, to inspect for internal and external defects and to gently disperse product according to customer requirements. Technology development is critical to the overall business to expand areas of application, improve performance, discover new algorithms, and to make use of new hardware and processing power. Development is primarily done in Visual C++, SQL, Java, & PHP. The candidate must have experience in producing both easy to use GUI as well as streamlined core program that can be quickly configured to meet customer’s specific sorting needs.

 

The Role:

 

Durand is seeking a programmer with a passion for creating and maintaining cutting edge versatile software to lead our core technology development in the produce industry as well as someone who has the aptitude and interest to work with an exceptional sales team.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Imagine, design, develop, code and debug C++, Java, & PHP software.
  2. Build efficient systems for handling machine operations.
  3. Invent, implement and optimize new vision algorithms.
  4. Create and maintain end of life programs to phase out legacy software.
  5. Work with service technicians to quickly troubleshoot and patch remote issues as they arise.
  6. Interact with internal and external customers.
  7. Domestic and some limited international travel.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong programming skills and experience in production coding.
  2. Experience with signal processing and/or computer vision preferred.
  3. Industrial programming experience desirable.
  4. Experience in applications of computer vision and light wave analysis also of interest.
  5. Creative, motivated and looking to work hard for an aggressive growth company.

 

Minimum Education and Work Experience Required:

  1. Degree from a top engineering school in Computer Science specializing in Software Engineering or
  2. 5+ years’ recent experience in relevant, high-tech, industrial jobs coding in C++/C# or Java.

 

Salary commensurate with experience with incentive and bonus opportunities available.

Durand-Wayland has been in business for nearly eighty years and has an established customer base in all of the major fruit growing regions. Our headquarters, main manufacturing facility and this position is based in Lagrange GA. We also have a manufacturing facility with sales and service support in Reedley CA.
